Happy New Year! We are looking at this new year with hopeful anticipation of seeing the Lord move in Holbrook and the surrounding areas through our local churches, various partner ministries, and, of course, Oasis.
This month we look forward to getting back with the teens after Christmas break. Please be in prayer, as one of our long-time volunteer leaders will be sharing her testimony with the teens.
The Well, our ministry with Christian youth ages 10-19, is continuing to move forward. The high school group is continuing its overview of the Old Testament. We recently looked at Job and the Psalms and had some excellent discussion. We especially tried to encourage the students to use the Psalms as an aide in learning to pray and helping develop their own personal walks with God. Our Jr high students are learning how to defend the Christian faith in response to the various possible views that they may encounter at school and in life.
The Next Chapter, which is designed for young adults ages 19-29, is meeting on Thursday nights and they are continuing to discuss C.S. Lewis’s book, Mere Christianity. We hope to finish up soon and are considering reading Lewis’s Screwtape Letters next. As always, we are praying for continued increase in understanding and spiritual growth among the participants.
While we have been involved with mentoring teens for several years, this semester we are looking to expand the mentoring ministry to include young moms. One of our leaders who has worked on staff with us in the past and continues to serve with us as a volunteer is beginning to work with several young moms in our community and plans on assisting them through their early years of raising children, as well as helping provide for their needs spiritually and materially.
As always, thank you so much for your ongoing support for this ministry through prayer and giving. We definitely could not do what the Lord has called us to do without you!
Prayer Requests:
⦁ Please continue to pray that the Lord would provide a building, a place where Oasis can meet to hold weekly get-togethers for local teens.
⦁ Pray for more committed Christian adults to join Oasis as volunteers.
⦁ Pray for us to be able to connect with new students this semester.
⦁ Pray as we plan for the summer for camps for our students.
Thank you, again, for your prayers and support of Oasis Youth Ministries!
Blessings,
Jerad & Carrie Burgess
